In the previous lesson, E-shop in ASP.NET Core MVC - Persons - Finishing up, I promised to continue with implementing an accounting settings in today's ASP.NET Core tutorial. So let's do it.

Motivation

Running an e-shop is a gainful activity that is governed by law. We have an obligation to do bookkeeping and the e-shop owners are typically VAT payers if this tax applies in their country, although that doesn't have to be the case for smaller shops. The VAT rate varies from year to year, the owner can decide to become a VAT payer or to cancel this decision as well. Similarly, the owner, the accountant and other persons may change during the existence of the e-shop. Therefore, we're going to store all these variables in a table and write a simple administration for them.

Due to the obligation to do bookkeeping, we must remember all the settings historically. Last year's VAT invoice must remain the same, even if we are no longer VAT payers. Therefore, we'll add
