Lesson 15 - Working with files and folders in Java - New API
In the previous lesson, Working with files and folders in Java, we went over the older
class. In the end of the article, we showed the issues the class suffers from.
Since Java version 7, developers have come up with a new API. This API includes
Paths and the most important
Path interface. In today's lesson we're going to describe all these
The Path Interface
Path interface simply represents a path in a filesystem.
It's good to say that the implementation of this interface depends on the
operating system. As in the lesson on
introduce the methods associated with this interface.
Creating an Instance
Path is an interface, we have to instantiate it by a
factory method. There are several ways, but two are the most important:
Paths.get(String path): Path- an older way to create an instance; since Java version 11, it only delegates to the next method
Path.of(String path): Path- since Java version 11; creates a new instance based on a path specified in the parameter
Let's show a sample usage:

ict.social is a large database made up of manuals and tutorials, whose main goal is to provide high-quality IT education to everyone. We started out in the Czech republic, where we display roughly a million articles per month and receive plenty of gratitude from our users. Thanks to our successful establishment, we are now bringing these articles to the rest of the world.
Although we are trying to keep our content free of charge, maintaining the site is a huge effort for everyone involved. Therefore, some content (exercises and more advanced material) costs network points. Don't worry, they're really cheap :)

In the second part of working with files and folders in Java, we'll introduce the new API and its classes.
