Lesson 16 - PHP Testing - More Selenium WebDriver Syntax

In the previous lesson, PHP Testing - Selenium WebDriver syntax overview, we started with a detailed description of the Selenium WebDriver syntax of the Codeception PHP framework. In today's tutorial, we're going to continue.

Controlling the browser

Keyboard

Of course we can manipulate with the keyboard.

• pressKey(element, keys) - Presses a given key in a given element. We pass the keys as separated method parameters and as strings (e.g. "a"). The strings can contains multiple characters as well. Instead of a single key, we can also pass a string array with they keys which should be pressed simultaneously (e.g. ['ctrl', 'c']).

Tabs

Now let's introduce the manipulation with tabs.

• switchToWindow(na­me) - Switches to another window (tab) of a given name. If we don't provide the name, it switches to the previous window.
• switchToNextTab(of­fset) - Switches to the next tab. We can also provide an offset to skip some tabs. For example, to switch to the second next tab, we'd use the offset 2.
• switchToPrevi­ousTab(offset) - Switches to the previous tab. We can also define the offset, to jump to the second previous tab by using the value 2.
• closeTab() - Closes the current tab and moves to the last active tab.
• openNewTab() - Opens a new tab and switches to it (the AdBlock add-on can cause a failure of this action).
