Lesson 23 - Date and Time in PHP using OOP
In the previous tutorial, Magic methods in PHP pt. 2, we learned about getters, setters and went over all of the basic magic methods. In today's lesson, we are going to introduce you to the DateTime class, which allows us to work with date and time in an object-oriented way.
The DateTime class contains all the necessary methods for working with date and time. As you can see, PHP is slowly improving, and it's starting to provide system objects. Thanks to this, we don't have to remember any of those poorly named global functions.
To work with time and date, we simply create an instance of the class. If we don't enter any parameters in the constructor, the DateTime instance is set to the current date and time:
$date = new DateTime();
If we wanted to set a specific time, there is a variety of ways to do so. We're going to look into some of them.
If we've received a date from a database

ict.social is a large database made up of manuals and tutorials, whose main goal is to provide high-quality IT education to everyone. We started out in the Czech republic, where we display roughly a million articles per month and receive plenty of gratitude from our users. Thanks to our successful establishment, we are now bringing these articles to the rest of the world.
Although we are trying to keep our content free of charge, maintaining the site is a huge effort for everyone involved. Therefore, some content (exercises and more advanced material) costs network points. Don't worry, they're really cheap :)

In this tutorial, we're going work with date and time in an object-oriented way using the DateTime and DateInterval PHP classes. We'll also format dates.
Buying this article gives you unlimited access to it forever. You will learn some more and help us keep giving our site maintenance which helps you and others get better futures. It's a win-win.
